There’s a point in the long summer holiday when we all scratch our heads and wonder how to keep the younger members of the family entertained. Cakes have been baked, artistic paint trails across the floor have been scrubbed clean and even the beach is losing its appeal … what next?
Each day from 17 to 20 August the Margate Bookie has fun, creative and importantly, FREE, activities to keep your small people busy:
Thursday 17 August
From 11am-12pm at Turner Contemporary, children aged 7 years and over can make their own fanzines with a little help from Margate’s Sam Gayton. Sam is the author of popular children’s books Hercufleas, His Royal Whiskers and The Adventures of Lottie Peppercorn. This hands-on session will involve origami, colouring and creative writing.
Friday 18 August
From 11am-12pm at Turner Contemporary, children aged 3 years and over will create a new character with children’s author Dosh Archer. Dosh, who lives in Margate, will also talk about how she came up with the characters in her Urgency Emergency series. Your children will paint, draw, write and join in with nursery rhymes.
Saturday 19 August
Dosh Acher is back for a second day, this time at Bernie’s Chocolate Bar. From 11am to 12pm, children aged 5 and over will learn how to write and draw a cartoon. Dosh will look at the difference between real characters and those in cartoons before getting busy with the coloured pencils.
Sunday 20 August
From 3pm to 4pm at Bernie’s Chocolate Bar, children can make their own paper roll story characters with Margate’s Tamara Rattigan. This hands-on session will involve cutting, colouring, painting, sticking and lots of imagination! The session is for children aged 3 years and over.
All our children’s events are free but places must be booked in advance. You can get tickets here – please book a place for each adult and child attending. Adults must remain in attendance for the duration of the session.
