A literary ‘Dragons’ Den’ is taking place this month as part of the annual Margate Bookie festival.

On Saturday 19 August at Turner Contemporary, six authors will each have five minutes to pitch their book. You’ll hear everything from fiction to memoir, poetry to history, and can vote for your favourite at the end of the night.

Amongst the authors pitching is Catherine Spencer (pictured), the former rugby union player who captained England at the 2010 Women’s Rugby World Cup. Her memoir Mud, Maul, Mascara: How I Led My Country, and Lived to Tell the Tale is the first of its kind by a female rugby player

She will be joined by:

David Quantick – Go West

Irfan Shah – The Shadow Traps

Robert Welbourn – Ideal Angels

Kate Bulpitt – Purple People

Alys Earl – Time’s Fool

Special guest for the night is James Cook (pictured) who is ‘fully funded’ for his book Memory Songs which will be published in 2018.

The event has been organised by Unbound, the crowdfunding publisher. Tickets are £5 and include a £5 voucher to pledge against a book of your choice on the Unbound site. Get your tickets today.
