Alongside a jam-packed line-up of talented authors and writers, the Margate Bookie has an afternoon of workshops to inspire your writing, give you tips on finding a publisher, and market yourself and your work.

Spend the afternoon of Sunday 20 August in the luxury of Sands Hotel and learn…

How storytelling can make you happier (12:30-1:45pm)

In this unique session led by happiness expert Vanessa King and Faber & Faber author Elise Valmorbida you will learn new psychological techniques to boost your well-being and make you feel happier, get help to write more, appreciate life deeper and tell better stories, and discover how to transform experience and imagination into compelling words.

How to find a literary agent (2pm-3pm)

Publishing is an increasingly competitive industry, and agents are bombarded with submissions. Top agent Norah Perkins (Curtis Brown) and Amazon’s Rising Star Laura Powell (The Unforgotten) will share their experiences and tell you what agents look for in a submission, how to craft an appealing cover/query letter and synopsis, and talk about why writers get selected.

How to find your audience (4pm-5pm)

This session is all about making contact and building a relationship with your readers. We’ll look at how blogging, vlogging, traditional and social media can all help you to connect and build a loyal fanbase. PR specialist Gemma Pettman and author/ghostwriter Philip Whiteley will share practical tips and real life experiences. You’ll learn how to target and craft the perfect press release, achieve A-list endorsement, and make marketing a natural extension of storytelling.

Each session costs £5 or you can book to attend all three for £12. It’s advisable to book in advance and you can do that right here.
