Children’s Festival June 2022

The children’s events ran from 2 June – 5 June 2022 at the Droit House, next to the Turner on the Harbour Wall.

We were so grateful to have such fabulous authors such as Bookie regulars Gianna Pollero, Roopa Farooki, Zoe Antoniades and Tamara Rattigan.

Thursday 2 June
11am – 12pm

Gianna Pollero
Monster Doughnuts

We found out how Monster Doughnuts came about and what it’s like to be a children’s author! We heard how Gianna came up with some of the crazy monsters in her books – Sock Stealers, Tripper Uppers and Homework Takers to name but a few… and our incredible audience even had the chance to come up with a brilliant monster of their own!

Friday 3 June
11am – 12pm

Roopa Farooki
Double Detectives Medical Mysteries

We had a great time in an action-packed children’s event with debut children’s author, Roopa Farooki.

With pacey, sparky writing with both excitement and humour, we read and learned from a brand-new fiction series intended to encourage readers from diverse backgrounds to develop an interest in medicine and STEM subjects.

Accessible middle grade fiction perfect for fans of the Murder Most Unladylike series and detective dramas

Saturday 4 June
11am – 12pm

Zoe Antoniades
Twintastic

There was a brilliant experience to be had with the twintastically fun adventures of Cally and Jimmy as we joined Zoe Antoniades on a journey of story discovery.

Cally has a twin brother Jimmy, and he is always getting into some kind of mischief
– which usually means double trouble! Thankfully their Greek granny is usually on
hand to help – or add to the mayhem!
In these four fab stories, the twins make a splash on their beach holiday, run into
trouble on sports day, get spooked while trick or treating, and uncover a thief at
school.

Sunday 5 June
11am – 12pm

Tamara Rattigan

Margate children’s author and illustrator Tamara Rattigan was with us on our final day of the festival for a morning of storytelling, where we created our own paper roll Queen and guards characters to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.

Ideal for children aged 3 – 8.
