Join us for the Spring Bookie

This May it’s Bookie time once again. Enjoy talks, walks, inspirational author readings and workshops from Saturday 5 to Monday 7 May.

Saturday – Going coastal

The Spring Bookie brings you two giants of contemporary literature, a musical book launch and the world’s first ever TS Eliot Rave™. Honestly, what other litfest gives you more?

Join ‘The Waste Land’ Walking Group for an uplifting start to the day at 11am. We’re honoured that Louis de Bernières will play mandolin, recite poetry and read from his novels at 2pm. At 4pm Jake Arnott (The Long Firm, He Kills Coppers) talks with novelist Simon Wroe in our marvellous room overlooking the sea. Then saunter into the Old Town for Philip Whiteley’s book launch and musical knees-up at 6pm. Drink will be taken.

Sunday by the Sea

Boost your creativity, meet bestselling authors and see why Margate is the new capital of poetry. A fun-packed day of poetry and prose in Turner Contemporary, topped off with Salena Godden live in concert and Margate’s liveliest poetry slam.

We kick off at 11.30am with Richard Skinner’s Poetry Masterclass. At 1pm Adrian Cross comperes six authors from Vanguard Readings. Bring your A-Game to Salena Godden’s Performance Masterclass at 2pm. Then at 4pm we’ve got a special performance of the Red Dancer. Fuel up, and we’ll see you at 7pm for Salena Godden Live and The Bookie Slam at The Dug Out in the Old Town.

Margate Monday

Our seaside specials include a top travel journalist, local writers launching their new anthology and two local children’s authors whose books are loved all over the world.

We start with Sam Gayton’s Fanzine Workshop (Kids 7+) at 11.30. We’re delighted that Anna Hart is in conversation with Daisy Buchanan about her new travel book, Departures, at 1pm. You can meet five authors from Thanet Writers at 2.30pm. And we close the Bank Holiday with Dosh Archer’s creative play session at 4pm.

Tickets will be available soon, so check back here or follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
