What’s The Breakup Monologues all about?
The Breakup Monologues is my second book and follows many years of research into the psychology of love. It weaves this research in with breakup stories from friends and fellow comedians, and my own personal journey as I try to use what I’ve learned to help me stay in a relationship at last. That lasts?
How did The Breakup Monologues come about?
The book is partly inspired by a trilogy of comedy shows that I toured around the world. The final part was a show called The Conscious Uncoupling, which was all about my breakup story. When others started sharing their stories with me after the show, I decided to set up The Breakup Monologues podcast. Then it made sense to develop into a book too.
What have you got in store for us in your event?
I’ll be reading some funny sections from both of my books and doing some of my favourite stand-up routines all about relationships. I’d also love to take questions about the real psychology and science of heartbreak and all the fascinating facts I learned while writing.
Where and when can we see you at the litfest?
I’ll be at the Turner Contemporary on Friday 3 June. It’ll be my first ever gig as a married woman! So I’m the proof that learning from multiple breakups can actually lead to staying in a relationship in the end!
