‘Welcome to The Open Arms. What’ll it be?’
So, we’ve thrown the doors wide open and are glad to announce
the Margate Bookie’s third ‘zine, The Open Arms.
We’re inviting you to write, draw, snap or riff about an instance of acceptance and welcoming in the lives of yourselves, others or even fictional characters. We’d like you to remember or create a time when you or others have been made to feel welcome or have welcomed others. This could include accepting others from different backgrounds or beliefs, or accepted new ideas and ways of thinking into your life. You could even come up with a completely fictional idea to base your creativity around. We’ve given you an open bar for your imagination, so help yourself.
The Open Arms
As with our previous ‘zines, we’re looking for short stories (2000 words max), poetry (2000 equ.), artworks, journal entries, articles, letters, or whatever different forms that take your fancy based around the theme of the ‘zine. Take a look at our amazing menu for more.
Before submitting your order, please make sure you read our guidelines:
- All submissions should follow the ‘zines theme, however creative interpretation of the theme is encouraged.
- We’ll review all submissions after our deadline of Monday 31 January 2022. We will let you know whether your piece has been accepted by Monday 28 February 2022.
- Margate Bookie wants to appeal to a wide audience and connect people through a love of literature. We will edit submissions to improve quality and accessibility, in collaboration with accepted authors.
- Only one piece per person will be accepted. Please send no more than 3 pieces of poetry or visual art for selection. Word count for prose should not exceed 2000 words.
