Coming to the Bookie? Here's the practical stuff you need to know

The Margate Bookie is back from 28-30 September at Turner Contemporary and venues in Margate’s old town. Whether you’re joining us for a single day or the whole weekend, you may find the following information helpful:

Getting here

If you’re coming from out of town, why not let the train take the strain? When it comes to parking, it’s worth avoiding on-street bays in the very centre of Margate. Instead try Mill Lane car park, College Square/Morrisons (closes an hour after the store closes), Dreamland or Margate train station. For current pricing, consult a tool like Parkopedia before you set off.

The venues

The majority of our events take place at Turner Contemporary, but others will be held at venues in Margate’s old town:

Turner Contemporary – Rendezvous, Margate, CT9 1HG

Beet Bar – Market Street, Margate, CT9 1DL

The Quarterdeck Brewhouse – 50 Marine Terrace (down the slope to Dreamland), Margate CT9 1XJ

Sands Hotel – 16 Marine Drive, Margate, CT9 1DH

Margate Library – Thanet Gateway Plus, Cecil Street, Margate, CT9 1RE

Tickets

Tickets for all of our events are available online. On the day, if there is space in any of the sessions we can take cash payment on the door but to avoid disappointment it is worth booking in advance at www.margatebookie.com/tickets

Food and drink

Whether you fancy a light snack or a three-course seafood dinner, a smoothie or a pint of craft ale, Margate has plenty of cafes, restaurants, bars and micropubs to tempt your taste buds. Foodie magazine Olive recently published its guide to eating in Margate and it features some of our absolute favourites (GB Pizza Co, we’re looking at you).

Buying books

Once again we’re welcoming the Margate Bookshop’s pop-up store to the Bookie. You’ll have the chance to buy books written by our featured authors as well as other modern and contemporary titles, photographers’ limited-edition photobooks, friendly self-help guides and illustrated maps, children’s books and books from independent publishers. Francesca takes great pride in curating a selection of books to suit all tastes and pockets, so give the store a visit – it will be located on the ground floor of Turner Contemporary.
